A Year Later, the Apple Vision Pro Is Evolving—Is the Vision Pro 2 Right Around the Corner?

The Apple Vision Pro turned heads in early 2024—but after a year, it's time for an upgrade. The $3,499 spatial computing headset was undeniably ambitious, but weight, price, and usability held it back. Now, whispers of internal tweaks and sibling devices suggest Cupertino's ready to recalibrate—and go mainstream.

The 2024 Vision: A Tech Marvel That Stayed Niche

When the Vision Pro landed in February 2024, reviewers were dazzled by its ultra-sharp displays, eye-tracking, and spatial interface. Even The Verge called it "magic—until it's not."

Still, the 600–650 g headset (excluding battery), high price, and neck strain complaints turned many off. Sales reportedly lagged, prompting a production dial-back.

Vision Pro 2: Slimmer, Smarter, Coming Soon?

Apple's not standing still. Word on the street is that a refreshed Vision Pro is inbound—perhaps as early as late 2025. Expect an internal power boost with the M4 (or maybe M5) chip, plus redesigned straps to ease the weight burden.

Vision Air (2027): Lighter, Cheaper, More Reach

Meanwhile, a second path is emerging—a Vision Air model aimed to halve the price and lose around 40% of the weight, with a launch possibly in 2027. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pegs the price at around $1,799, making it far more accessible.

Strategy Shift: From Hype to Reach

All signs point to Apple leaning into a dual-track strategy:

  • A polished Vision Pro refresh to serve pro users and early adopters
  • A cheaper, pared-down Vision Air for the broader market This is a pivot from "premium-only splash" toward building a full lineup—like Apple Watch and iPhone. If done right, scaling could bring spatial computing into the everyday—not just fantasy.

Final Thought:

The Vision Pro's first year proved Apple can dream big—but heavy, pricey headsets don't fly with the masses. A sleeker Vision Pro (2025) + a friendlier Vision Air (2027) could finally make spatial computing feel less like a flashy prototype and more like a future staple.
